THE BEACON ROULEUR CYCLOSPORTIVE 2015
DATE OF EVENT: 3rd May 2015
THE CLASSIC ROUTE
93miles
What a route, beautiful country roads in Sussex with the iconic hill of Ditchling Beacon to start with !
The Beacon Rouleur is a real test for any fit cyclist. The route starts off very hard with the climbs of Ditchling Beacon and Coombe Road and Bear Road in Brighton. After these tough climbs the route heads out to the coast road where riders can get glimpses of the English Channel before heading back inland and the first feed station at 25 miles.
Flatter faster roads where riders can increase their average speed reside after passing through the outskirts of Lewes ....... and then as they say the ride really starts!
While riders of other routes will be peeling off to take short cuts back to the finish, classic riders will be carrying on on a beautiful route out to Rushlake Green where the climb of Marklye lane resides. After a few more miles riders stop in Mayfield for a well earned feed stop at the 60 mile mark. There is 33 miles to go after the Mayfield feed stop and riders will enjoy the picturesque route back through Castle wood and Hadlow down. One more feed station is available at Framfield where last bit of energy can be taken on board for the final 20 miles where time can be made up on the flater roads back to the finish.
FEED STATIONS
Four feed station are on route to make sure you have enough energy to get to the finish
Feed stop 1 @ 25 miles
Feed stop 2 @ 45 miles
Feed stop 3 @ 60 miles timing stop
Feed stop 4 @ 73 miles
Feed stop 3 at Mayfield is the timing stop where all Classic route riders have to stop to log in their timing chip. You don't have to stop at the other feed stops if you don't want to, but if you do you will be given a split time for each stop.
Each time you stop will obviously add extra time to your ride so if you are aiming for a gold standard then you should be aware of the time you are looking to finish in to achieve that standard for your age group, see below.
